Sol Haroon is a principal at Openstream Design. As an electrical engineer, he specializes in photovoltaic (PV) systems, renewable power systems, and teaching. He is a certified PV installation professional by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) and is also a long-standing member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
He has worked for many years in the solar field including 3 years at Suniva, Inc, an American solar PV manufacturing firm, where he led the system’s architecture team including the design and commissioning of multi-Megawatt systems.
In addition to completing his Bachelors of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, he has many years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Storage/Battery Systems, and PV Systems Design and Architecture in both design and teaching.
Mr. Haroon is a consulting instructor at the Georgia Institute of Technology where in 2015 he created a 40-hour graduate course on PV systems architecture and taught 27 graduate students in the department of electrical and computer engineering. He has taught subsequent 40-hour professional outreach courses through Georgia Tech.
Mr. Haroon has presented at Intersolar 2016 and has supported clients at Intersolar and Solar Power International over many years. Mr. Haroon is published in trade journals and regularly gives public talks, radio interviews, and webinars on renewable energy and sustainable living.
